The amount of audio files being illegally downloaded is not declining despite repeated warnings of legal action, according to TorrentFreak.com. The streaming media web portal pointed out that unlawful downloads may not abate unless other suitable options are offered to consumers. "You can't successfully legislate illegal filesharing without decent alternatives," the company said. "There are indeed several indications that illicit filesharing is still growing." A spokesperson for TorrentFreak.com suggested that the government should not be involved in any discussions about illegal downloading at all - it should just be left to industry figures. "The industry knows very well how to compete with piracy - but they also know that it would require a huge change in their business models," the spokesperson said. A survey conducted by Forrester questioned over 1,000 consumers and found that 11.6 per cent of respondents admitted to engaging in illegal filesharing. The company put the total number of illegal file sharers in the UK at 6.7 million. ![]() |
