Live online streaming auctions are growing in popularity, a new survey reveals.
According to UK-based online bidding site The-salesroom.com, the proportion of online bidders using the streaming service has increased by 120 per cent year-on-year. Despite the dismal economic climate, revenues generated through the auction streaming service have increased by 55 per cent year-on-year, the company said. Anne Somers, chief executive of ATG Media, which owns The-salesroom.com, said consumers value the convenience presented by the auction site's streaming technology and anticipates more people to use the service. "We expect online live bidding to continue its rise in popularity throughout 2010 and beyond and are delighted with these 2009 results," she said. The-salesroom.com currently dominates the live online auctioneering market in the UK and has more than 110,000 regular bidders using the site. According to the recent Cone Consumer New Media Study, almost three-quarters (72 per cent) of consumers feel a stronger connection to new media firms using steaming sites such as YouTube. ![]() |
