Many steaming media users are not making full use of their broadband download allowances, a new survey suggests.
According to a poll conducted by Broadband Choices, more than half (53 per cent) of users with an unlimited allowance only download ten gigabytes or less per month. Meanwhile almost three-quarters (74 per cent) of web users said they download 20 gigabytes or less. The survey found that the vast majority of broadband users spend less than two hours a week watching streaming video, movie and television content. Over three-quarters (79.2 per cent) said they watch streaming video clips on sites such as YouTube, while a similar proportion stream audio content online. Michael Phillips, product director, Broadband Choices, said: "Consumers who pay for a service they are not making full use of are in effect throwing money down the drain. "Broadband customers should shop around for a deal to suit their usage needs using an Ofcom accredited price comparison site - those who do could save themselves £100 a year or more." ![]() |
