A new survey reveals that mobile streaming video content is growing in popularity and demand.
According to a report by Allot, mobile data bandwidth usage around the world increased by 72 per cent between the second and fourth quarters last year. Streaming video site YouTube was found to account for around ten per cent of mobile data bandwidth around the world. HTTP streaming increased by 99 per cent, while HTTP downloads rose by 73 per cent. Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and internet messaging applications also increased in popularity, growing by almost half (47 per cent). Skype was deemed to be the clear VoIP market leader in the fourth quarter of 2009 and accounted for over three-quarters (77 per cent) of global mobile VoIP bandwidth. The report said that both the regional and global growth of video streaming media suggests that more consumers are gravitating towards real-time, user generated on demand content. ![]() |
