The government needs to extend super-fast broadband so the whole country can benefit from faster streaming services, it has been suggested.
IT expert Paul Richens said more widely available broadband services will allow businesses across the country to access a host of services that their current services are unable to cater for. Mr Richens, proposition manager at Eclipse Internet, pointed out that there are some places in the UK, such as parts of Cornwall, where the level of broadband coverage is so inadequate that the internet is practically unusable. "Faster broadband will allow companies to access a whole new range of online services and applications that the average UK business simply doesn't have the bandwidth for yet," he said. "It's not just about saving money by allowing efficient home-working or reducing call costs." Prime minister Gordon Brown has pledged to make sure every resident in the country has access to high-speed internet. He maintained that internet access should be for all, not just some. ![]() |
