Many consumers may be expecting more than can be delivered from the streaming services offered by their broadband providers, an expert has said.
Michael Phillips, product director for Broadbandchoices.co.uk, expressed his surprise that despite improving internet speeds, the gap between the best and worst broadband providers appears to be widening. "Maybe the problem is that customers may expect more from their broadband because they are using services such as BBC iPlayer and that means they are less satisfied with their ISP," he said. "As there are more broadband applications, like TV on demand, they expect more from their connection, and you end up with this gap growing in dissatisfaction from one year to the next." Mr Phillips stressed that broadband providers need to be more circumspect when it comes to the way in which they market packages and advertise speeds based upon the average you are likely to get rather than the actual value for your speed. ![]() |
