Streaming video site Blinkx has launched a new advertising service based on users habits.
The system will build a detailed profile of web users using their previous habits and use this information to present consumers with ads that are tailored to their specific interests. Blinkx hopes that the new innovation will help the company understand is users more intimately and help advertisers perform much better by increasing their return on investment and minimising the risk of wasted ads. User activity will only be monitored on the Blinkx site and no personal details and search habits will be stored. Consumers will also retain the right to opt out of all behavioural targeting. Suranga Chandratillake, chief executive of Blinkx, told Reuters: "Targeting is extremely valuable. What we saw, particularly during a recession, is that if you can target viewers then advertisers can justify higher spending." He added that targeting ads more accurately can help keep ad rate pricing high and profitable. ![]() |
