Popular streaming video website YouTube now attracts more than two billion hits every day, new figures reveal.
The site announced that it has attracted an extra one billion hits within the last seven months and while the number of views is a significant milestone, the site believes it still has further to go. Chad Hurley, co-founder of YouTube, told BBC News that the new figures demonstrate the site's popularity, as it gives ordinary people around the world a video platform to share their views and distribute their videos to users on a global basis. "Two billion video streams is a large number but on average people are only spending 15 minutes a day on the site compared to five hours a day watching TV," he said. Mr Hurley added that YouTube is proud of its achievements and the wide popularity the site has gained from users around the world. YouTube was acquired by Google for $1.65 billion (£1 billion) about 19 months after the site was launched in February 2005. ![]() |
