Retail chain Best Buy has announces plans to launch its own streaming video web portal.
The company has acquired the rights to use the CinemaNow name for its service, which will offer consumers streaming movie and television content. Customers will be able to able to benefit from same-day instant access to new-release films and TV shows and will be able to buy or rent from an extensive library of premium content with no subscription required. The service, which is being facilitated by Sonic Solution's Roxio unit, is expected to launch later this month via the cinemanow.com website and also on TVs with internet access and selected connected Blu-ray players. Content will be delivered with high-quality enhanced playback technology and users will be able to watch the streaming videos through an easy-to-navigate user interface. Chris Homeister, senior vice-president of BestBuy entertainment, said the company will continue to look for ways to allow consumers to seek digital content just as they seek physical content in their stores. ![]() |
