A new survey has found that online streaming video campaigning played a crucial role in the recent UK elections.
A report from YouGov found that nearly one in three young people aged between 18 and 24 believe that web-based discussion of politics and voting had an impact on the candidates they chose to elect. The study, which was commissioned by digital public relations agency Diffusion, found that online video sharing website YouTube was among the most influential online platform affecting the way people voted. Overall, a total of 40 per cent of respondents said their decision of who to vote for was influenced to some extent by online campaigning. Daljit Bhurji, managing director of Diffusion, said: "This was not the digital election some had predicted but it certainly was a digital election. "Whether in five years or in five months, the next general election is likely to see an even greater proportion of campaign war chests invested in online channels." ![]() |
