Streaming video is gaining increasing popularity in the US, with over half of adults saying they consume streaming content, new research shows.
According to figures from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 52 per cent of adults in the US watch or download streaming video content, with this figure rising to over two-thirds (69 per cent) among web surfers. There is a notable increase (31 per cent to 50 per cent) in consumption of comedy or humorous videos, while educational videos rose in viewership from 22 per cent to 38 per cent of adult internet users. Films or television shows increased in popularity from 16 per cent to 32 per cent among adults, while political videos rose in viewership from 15 per cent to 30 per cent. Kristen Purcell, a Pew associate director for research, said: "We are seeing a surge in online video watching. Untold numbers of websites now showcase online video as part of their content." ![]() |
