Video streaming website Hulu has announced the launch of a new subscription service, it has emerged.
The new service, Hulu Plus, will provide viewers with access to older episodes of popular television shows such as Glee, House, The Office and other hit shows from broadcasters ABC, Fox and NBC for $9.99 (£6.50) a month. Meanwhile, more recent episodes of the television shows will remain free on Hulu's ad-supported website. Hulu said viewers will be able to watch streaming content on a range of platforms including Apple's iPad and iTouch, Samsung TVs and PlayStation games consoles. Access will be available on Microsoft's Xbox 360 next year. Writing in an official blog post, Hulu chief executive Jason Kilar commented: "We believe that any lasting solution to the challenge of making TV show discovery and viewing dramatically easier has to work for all three of our customers." Rival video streaming website Netflix already runs a similar subscription service, while Comcast and Time Warner are developing an on-demand free streaming service for current paying customers. ![]() |
