A new Yahoo! survey reveals that web users in South-east Asia prefer to stream music and video content online.
The Net Index 2010 study, which was conducted in conjunction with Synovate, found that half (51 per cent) of surfers in Malaysia upload or download music files online, while 54 per cent watch streaming video content. International music is typically preferred by urban web users, while 47 per cent tend to opt for local music, the report said. There is also a sizeable appetite for entertainment news, movie reviews and online games. Around 43 per cent of young males aged between 15 and 19 were found to devote a significant amount of their time to playing games online. Additionally, the survey found that there is a growing trend towards engaging with content and generally surfing the web via mobile internet. Myung Jo Choi, acting country manager of Yahoo! Malaysia, said: "Malaysia is shaping up as a fast growing market for the internet in South-east Asia and Yahoo! is truly pioneering the study of internet usage in the region and educating marketers on the way forward." ![]() |
