Women spend more time online than men, despite constituting a lower percentage of the overall global internet community, new research reveals.
According to a new study by comScore entitled How Women are Shaping the Web, females represent less than half (46 per cent) of all internet users aged 18 and up around the world. However, they make up half or more of all internet users in North America, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and Russia. The survey also found that web-savvy women in Asia outnumber their female counterparts in North America by more than two to one. Women were found to spend more time online than men in Europe - an average of 26 hours a month, compared to 25 hours spent by men. In Latin America, women average 27.1 monthly hours online - just 1.5 per cent more than the 26.7 monthly hours spent online by men. Furthermore, three-quarters (75.8 per cent) of all women questioned said they frequented a social networking site in May, compared to 69.7 per cent of men. ![]() |
