| UK broadband speeds come 34th place globally |

The UK has come in 34th place in a global broadband survey, it has emerged.
According to Ookla's NetIndex survey, the UK's sub-par broadband speeds put the country 3th out of 162 countries. The average download speed for broadband connections in the UK is currently 7.7Mbps, putting it behind other European countries such as Estonia, Slovenia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, South Korea topped the poll, with web users in the Asian country able to enjoy high-speed streaming services thanks to a high average bandwidth of 32Mbps and upload speeds of 18.9Mbps. Upload speeds in the UK however, were found to be significantly lower. The average UK web surfer is only able to access download speeds of 0.91Mbps, which puts the country in 65th place. The survey's results are based on submissions received from the online speed rating system SpeedTest, which surveyed the average throughput over the last 30 days, where the mean distance between the client and the server is less than 300 miles. ![]() |
