The number of fixed broadband subscribers totalled just under 449 million in the second quarter of 2010, new figures show.
According to ABI Research, this number represents a ten per cent increase compared with the same period in 2009 and is partially attributed to a boom in broadband usage across parts of Asia. "The key fixed broadband subscriber growth was found in the Asia-Pacific region, adding approximately three million subscribers in the second quarter of 2010," commented digital home practice director Jason Blackwell. In the Asia-Pacific region, China represents approximately 59 per cent of all APAC broadband subscribers and has a penetration rate of 28 per cent. ABI Research's report found however, that growth levels for broadband subscription in Europe were slower than they were in 2009, particularly in saturated markets such as the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. Overall, European fixed broadband subscriber numbers topped 126.4 million at the end of the second quarter of 2010. ![]() |
