BT has announced it is set to hold a nationwide survey to determine which communities would benefit most from its rollout of fibre broadband.
As part of its Race to Infinity competition, the company is asking for feedback from the British public to find out which five areas would have the highest demand for streaming media via broadband. The competition is now open and is running until December 31st, with BT planning to have installed new fibre broadband in the winning areas by the end of 2012. Gavin Patterson, BT Retail chief executive said: "The Race to Infinity is an opportunity for the country to make its voice heard. BT will have rolled out fibre [broadband] to more than four million homes by the end of 2010 but it'll still have more than 12 million premises to pass by 2015." Meanwhile, a new £132 million scheme has been unveiled by BT in which the firm plans to help local businesses in Cornwall gain greater access to superfast broadband. Funding for the project is being delivered by BT and the European Regional Development Fund - £78.5 million and £53.5 million respectively. ![]() |
