Adopting streaming media services rather than promoting downloads could boost revenues for mobile operators, new research has shown.
A study conducted by Informa Telecoms & Media and Spotify found that millions of euros of revenue could be generated from the use of audio streaming services. Using data from a partnership between Scandinavia mobile group Telia and Spotify, the research contended that more than 77 million euros (£67.5 million) could be generated in 2011 alone through a partnership with an audio streaming service. Senior Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, Giles Cottle, said that the findings showed that revenue would be greater if mobile operators partnered with a third-party service rather than developing their own audio streaming service. "Add in other benefits, such as network efficiency, brand awareness and increased lifetime customer value, and the potential for such a partnership becomes very clear," Mr Cottle continued. Using services such as audio streaming could help operators to sell more high-end smartphones, Reuters claims the research suggested. ![]() |
