Microsoft could be set to enter the arena of streaming video with the signing of new licensing agreements.
The company is presently in talks with a number of partners for the introduction of greater streaming media services for its Xbox 360 and PC users, placing it in a position to rival the established players in the field including Apple, Netflix and Hulu, unnamed sources have told Reuters. Any new deal will be for subscription streaming video services and an announcement is expected sometime soon by the company. Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group, said: "The battle going forward is not so much about the hardware, it's about content. Microsoft's platforms (Xbox Live and Windows Media Center) are more mature and capable than Google TV." Elsewhere, Information Week recently reported that Facebook has launched live video streaming services to its users through a partnership with Livestream. The move allows users to embed Livestream straight on to their Facebook page, enabling streaming media content to be uploaded and viewed. ![]() |
