EchoStar has purchased rival streaming media services provider Move Networks.
The deal was carried out for an undisclosed fee. However, Move Networks indicated a number of months ago that an agreement may be on the cards and hoped to achieve a sale price for its assets somewhere in the region of $150 million (£97 million). EchoStar provides satellite services and set-top boxes for streaming media content. "Move Networks' patent portfolio and proven customer experience allow us to give clients the core technology necessary to stream live and video-on-demand content," said Roger Lynch, executive vice-president of EchoStar Advanced Technologies. Elsewhere, Tech World recently reported that streaming media company Zecter has been purchased by Motorola Mobility. Mobility users will now be able to upload live content via Zecter's cloud and then be able to access this media via Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices as a result of the deal.
