On-screen TV guide company Rovi has announced its intention to purchase streaming media services provider Sonic Solutions.
The move has resulted in a ten per cent rise in the stock price for Rovi and should the deal go through it will enable the firm to break into the lucrative streaming media sector, Seeking Alpha reports. Having more than doubled in the last 12 months, Rovi's value is presently at an all-time high and the firm is now being viewed as a possible future competitor for streaming media sector giant Netflix should the acquisition go ahead. Furthermore, Rovi recently unveiled new user-friendly TV guide technology that could be integrated into any breakthrough into the streaming media industry for the firm. Elsewhere, streaming media services provider EchoStar recently announced the purchase of Move Networks. Acquired for an undisclosed fee, Move Networks was recently valued in the region of $150 million (£97 million) and provides satellite services and set-top boxes for streaming media content.
