Netflix continues to be a strong presence in the streaming video market, according to recent results.
Research firm NPD Group has revealed that between January and February 2011, Netflix's share of digital movies that were downloaded or streamed from the internet totalled 61 per cent. The results of NPD's VideoWatch Digital tracking service also revealed that digital media accounts for 25 per cent of the number of videos watched in the home. NPD analyst Russ Crupnick commented that video-on-demand is starting to "make inroads with consumers". He noted: "Overwhelmingly, digital movie buyers do not believe physical discs are out of fashion, but their digital transactions were motivated by the immediate access and ease of acquisition provided by streaming and downloading digital video files." Despite the growing popularity of other streaming video services, Netflix continues to dominate the market and has more than 20 million members in the US and Canada. Posted by Thomas Price ![]() |
