Sony has announced the launch of a new streaming video service that will be ad-supported and free for users.
The firm's multi-platform video service Crackle is begin offering free streaming media to users in the coming months, with Hollywood films, television programmes and other online content all available for users of the service. Services will be available to viewers in the US and Canada upon the system's launch later this year. "Crackle's ad-supported service provides consumers with a uniquely curated experience that includes hundreds of Hollywood movies in genres including action, comedy, crime, horror, thriller and sci-fi," the company noted in a recent statement. Streaming video supplier Netflix also recently announced it will be reducing its standard resolution for users in Canada due to incoming data caps for users in the country. Network providers Rogers, Bell Canada and Shaw and will limit internet users to downloads of 15 GB per month in order to ensure capacity for the networks are not exceeded.
