Online streaming video provider YouTube has marked its sixth anniversary with the announcement that it now receives more than three billion views each day.
The company saw the number of hits to its site double during the last 12 months, with figures from Comscore highlighting the fact that the US took part in just five billion internet viewing sessions across all sites in April 2011, showing the global appeal of the site. In the US only, Comscore ranked YouTube as the top site for online video content, showing 142.7 million unique viewers during the month. Vevo, Yahoo! and Facebook came in second, third and fourth respectively in the Comscore charts. Elsewhere, Netflix was recently named as the largest user of internet bandwidth in the US. Figures compiled by BGC Partners in New York showed the company accounted for 29.7 per cent of all downloaded information in any given hour in North America. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
