Streaming media providers across the UK may benefit from the uptake of satellite broadband technologies in order to boost transfer speeds for users.
Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said the technology would be most suitable to help those who are presently receiving download speeds of less than 1 Mbps. He commented: "Satellite broadband guarantees speeds in excess of 1 Mbps now ... it's filling in where other providers can't help." Indeed, satellite broadband can be made available anywhere in the country, providing a boon to users who may be far from ADSL networks and other superfast infrastructure - with 1 Mbps rates compared to dial-up connection speeds that were available ten years ago. According to recent comments by Mr Phillips, the UK continues to suffer from a "broadband divide", with some areas of the country having access to much faster broadband connections than others. He noted that this is especially apparent when comparing average urban transfer rates to rural ones. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
