A new deal has been struck between Google and Movieclips to bring up to 20,000 high-definition licensed Hollywood films to YouTube.
Users of the site will be able to watch the on-demand streaming video content via Movie Extras on the YouTube VOD platform. It will bring the largest collection of Hollywood movies anywhere on the web to the streaming media site. "We are honoured to partner with Google to bring the best movie moments to an avid movie audience on YouTube," said Zach James, co-founder of Movieclips. The deal is supported by a recent $7 million (£4.3 million) investment in Movieclips by MK Capital and previous investors Shasta, First Round, SoftTech, Richmond Park Partners and Angels. YouTube is one of the most popular streaming video sites online and saw more than 13 million hours of content uploaded during 2010. This equates to 48 hours of content going live online every minute and eight years worth of new music, films, blog posts and other videos every day. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
