Miramax has announced the launch of its new Facebook Movie App for viewers in the UK, US and Turkey.
Subscribers to the application will be able to watch on-demand streaming video of some of the biggest movie blockbusters and films rented via the social media site will be available for viewing for iPad users or via Google TV. In total, ten titles will initially be launched for UK audiences, with viewers able to rent the films for 30 Facebook credits, the equivalent of $3 (£1.81). "One of the things Miramax approached us about was the notion of being able to buy on Facebook and watch on other platforms," said Dan Rose, Facebook vice president of partnerships and platform marketing. "We can be the identity platform behind that type of experience." Meanwhile, Google and Movieclips have signed an agreement to bring up to 20,000 movie titles to YouTube viewers - bringing the largest collection of Hollywood movies anywhere on the web to the streaming media site. The films will be available via Movie Extras on the YouTube VOD platform. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
