Google has announced it is set to launch its Google TV product for UK viewers at some point during the next six months.
The firm's executive chairman Eric Schmidt is expected to give more details when he speaks at the MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh Television Festival this evening (August 26th), but so far the firm has only confirmed the timeline. Google TV is set to offer a host of on-demand streaming video content, including catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player and is to be available either as a set-top box or built into newer televisions. Thinkbox chief executive Tess Alps has written an open letter to the Google exec, asking him to ensure greater collaboration with the television industry in future, as well as more financial investment from the world's leading online search provider. She wrote in her letter: "Collaboration takes longer at the start, but you will get further with better outcomes if you work alongside TV stakeholders." Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
