A new streaming video game platform has launched in the UK that could change the way gamers consume content forever.
OnLive is a unique concept in gaming, as it is basically a console that has no games. Instead, users sign up to the OnLive cloud network and can stream the game of their choice direct to their TVs at the push of a button. It works through an individual's internet connection, with the player effectively remotely controlling the action in the game, which is actually being played out on OnLive's own servers. "From what I can see, the system works and it's not just retailers and console manufacturers who are going to be threatened. It's hardware firms like nVidia and ATI and every gaming platform," Joe Martin, games editor at Bit Gamer, told BBC News. OnLive UK will also be available for users away from their TV sets, as it features downloadable clients for PC and Mac and apps for Android tablets and the iPad. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
