Streaming audio provider We7 has announced it is set to offer additional content to its subscribers in a bid to differentiate itself from its competitors.
The company will provide access to personalised radio stations for its subscribers, with users able to setup their own playlists of their favourite tracks that are currently hitting the airwaves. "We7 is about creating a music service for the masses," commented Steve Purdham, chief executive of We7. He added: "We now know that the majority of people want their music picked for them based on the genre or type of artist they like." Mr Purdham added that We7 is following the radio route to raise revenues rather than a subscription service, as this enables users to enjoy free downloads interspersed with on-air advertisements. The news follows Spotify's recent collaboration with social media site Facebook and its announcement that it has taken on more than a million US subscribers since its launch last month.
