Microsoft has announced the signing of deals with more than 40 content providers to provide programming for the launch of the firm's streaming video Xbox Live TV service.
Companies in the UK that have signed agreements with Microsoft include Channel 5 and Blinkbox, while Spain's Antenna 3, Gol TV and RTVE are also onboard. In addition, content is being provided by German company ZDF and a host of other European pay TV providers, including BSkyB, Canal Plus and Vodafone. Don Mattrick, president of interactive entertainment business at Microsoft, commented: "Combining the world's leading TV and entertainment providers with the power of Kinect for Xbox 360 and the intelligence of Bing voice search will make TV and entertainment more personal, social and effortless." Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer recently claimed the launch of Xbox TV will come in time for Christmas for UK subscribers, with on-demand streaming video from the company set to provide Xbox 360 owners with a whole new way to watch their favourite shows and films.
