Manchester City has agreed a new content deal with video streaming portal YouTube, which will give the football club greater control over media developed for its channel.
The Manchester team has become the first Barclays Premier League team to become a YouTube commercial partner, thus giving it autonomy over rights-owned or club-created videos hosted on the site, as well as tailored advertising for each page. Around 100 videos are created by the club's in-house production team CityTV, with its recent footage of new signing Samir Nasri attracting 500,000 views within three days. Richard Ayers, head of digital for Manchester City, said the club is seeking to expand its online presence via the partnership and will be aiming to take advantage of features such as annotations and bespoke interactive video. He added: "Our goal is to deliver a market-leading experience for fans in terms of online video." Last month, a report from BBC News revealed that top content providers on YouTube are currently able to make more than $100,000 (£63,900) a year in advertising revenue. Posted by Thomas Price ![]() |
