UK consumers are watching on average 240 million hours of streaming video content every month, new figures have shown.
According to research carried out by Experian Hitwise in its Online Video: Bringing Social Media to Life report, there has been a 36 per cent year-on-year increase in the amount of time Brits spend on average watching streaming video over the last 12 months. James Murray, marketing research analyst at Experian Hitwise, said: "While YouTube dominates the market, the increase in traffic to video-on-demand and more niche sites demonstrates that content is what matters most to today's internet users." He added the traffic to a number of niche sites in particular has seen significant gains in the last year, with VideoZer up by 853 per cent and MSN Video up by 913 per cent. Furthermore, research from Strategy Analytics recently showed that more than 42 million homes across the US and Europe are taking advantage of improved connectivity to enjoy streaming media content on a daily basis.
