Representatives from streaming media service provider Netflix have expressed confidence that it will be able to overcome rivals such as LOVEFiLM in the UK.
Speaking to the Telegraph on the launch of Netflix in Britain this week, chief executive Reed Hastings stated that the company offers a "much better user experience" than its Amazon-owned rival. He pointed to the availability of high-definition streaming for Netflix and the introduction of the service on platforms that LOVEFiLM does not currently support, such as Nintendo's Wii console. Meanwhile, chief content officer Ted Sarandos suggested LOVEFiLM's service was "too complicated", due to a surfeit of price points and package options. "We are very comfortable going after the same audience and product because we are specialists in what we do. No one ever failed for being specialised," he said. Netflix is currently the leading provider of streaming services in the US, providing more than two billion hours of content to users in the fourth quarter of 2011. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
