Facebook could be set to become the new host for the streaming music video service Vevo, according to a new report.
Sources close to the matter have informed CNET that the social networking company has held talks with Vevo "at least twice" over a potential move away from its current partnership with Google-owned YouTube. Facebook is seeking to pursue a deal similar to Vevo's current arrangement with YouTube, which sees the Google site allying with Vevo to sell advertisements and share the profits. This would build on Facebook's recent efforts to expand the music offering on its site, which began in September 2011 with the launch of Facebook Music, thus helping to retain users on the page for longer. Vevo has seen major growth in the last two years and is second only to YouTube itself in the number of views it generates per month. Recent figures from comScore show that more than 53 million unique users watched over 800 million videos on Vevo in the US last month. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
