The BBC and Sky have announced a new partnership that will allow users of Sky's Anytime+ TV service to access streaming BBC iPlayer content for the first time.
Thanks to the agreement, up to five million Anytime+ users will be able to stream the full range of iPlayer content direct to their TV sets at no additional cost. According to the public broadcaster, Sky's pledge to make Anytime+ available to all customers regardless of their internet provider was crucial to this deal being agreed, as offering universal access to content is a core BBC value. BBC director-general Mark Thompson said: "Having the BBC and Sky work together to further build on the BBC iPlayer success story can only be fantastic news for audiences." Since launching in 2007, iPlayer has been made available across a wide range of internet-connected platforms, delivering a record two billion TV and radio programmes in 2011. This year will see BBC content delivered to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console for the first time. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
