Multi-platform entertainment studio and media company Dragonfruit has announced a major deal to provide a new platform for the web-based comedy series Apollo's Pad. Dragonfruit has revealed it has signed a deal with the developer of the first open source online video platform, Kaltura, to power the appolospad.tv website behind the comedy series. Commenting on the selection process, Melissa Honabach of Dragonfruit said: "We conducted a rather thorough evaluation of a number of different options for a video management, presentation, and distribution platform." She continued: "Kaltura rose to the top in every category of the evaluation - against serious competition." Kaltura chairman and chief executive Ron Yekutiel added that there is currently a major growth in the amount of original high-quality content being developed that is specifically for an online audience and the firm's open source platform allows companies to create their own custom video streaming experiences for users. In related media streaming news, the UK music collection society PRS has agreed to cut the amount of each track streamed by websites such as YouTube, in a move that could increase the number of music videos available to be streamed online. PRS has cut the price from £0.22p per track to just £0.085p after YouTube began removing premium music videos to UK users over the pricing dispute.
