Myspace is dominating the social networking streaming video market, new figures show. Data from Nielsen Online shows that 120 million videos were streamed from the site in April this year - three times more than its nearest competitor Facebook, which streamed 41 million videos. The figures show that overall, the amount of time US web users spend on social networking sites has increased by 83 per cent. Internet surfers spent a total of 13.9 billion minutes on Facebook in April this year - 700 per cent more than in April 2008. Meanwhile, the number of minutes spent on new social networking utility Twitter rose to 300 million from 7.8 million last year - an increase of more than 3,700 per cent. Despite the large figures, Nielsen pointed out that web users can be fickle and switch their allegiances quickly. "Consumers have shown that they are willing to pick up their networks and move them to another platform, seemingly at a moment's notice," commented Jon Gibs, vice president of media and agency insights at Nielsen Online.
