Google sites earned ten billion online video views in August, according to new figures from comScore. The statistics showed that Google claimed almost half (40 per cent) of the entire online video audience. Most of Google's traffic came from online video sharing site YouTube, which accounted for 99 per cent of all videos watched. Coming in second was Microsoft, which attracted 547 million viewers, comprising just 2.2 per cent of the market share. Microsoft was followed by Viacom, with 539 million video viewed (2.1 per cent market share) and Hulu, with 488 million videos watched (1.9 per cent market share). The figures show that more than three-quarters (82 per cent) of all internet users in the US watched videos online in August, with an average viewing time of 9.7 hours. The average online video watched lasted for 3.7 minutes. A recent report from a number of leading firms including Yahoo and Warner Bros Media found that web users are now watching online videos round the clock, as opposed to only during certain periods.
