Channel 4 has signed a new deal with YouTube which will allow the streaming video sharing site to host some of its full-length programmes. Around 3,000 hours of programming will be made available on YouTube as part of the deal, offering viewers the chance to watch shows such as Peep Show, Skins and Hollyoaks. The three-year deal marks the first time a major broadcaster anywhere in the world has offered a catch-up service free of charge on YouTube. Content will be made available on the service over the next few months, with the full catalogue expected to be online by the start of 2010. Andy Duncan, chief executive of Channel 4, said: "Making our programmes directly accessible to YouTube's 20 million UK users will financially benefit both Channel 4 and our independent production partners and help bolster our investment in quality British content." Earlier this year, Channel 4 announced that it would make its entire back catalogue of programmes available on its website free of charge. ![]() |
