Comcast has unveiled a new online streaming video player, which it says simulates TV viewing. The new service will feature video content from 24 different cable networks and will be online in the US by the end of this year. Viewers will be able to watch a range of movies and popular television programmes such as Entourage and Mad Men as long as they are pre-existing subscribers. The move makes Comcast the first cable TV operator to make its content available to users on the internet. A number of content providers including Time Warner, Starz, CBS and the Discovery Channel will be taking part in the new service. Alix Cottrell, vice-president of Fancast.com, said Comcast has developed the online video player with an outside company. Recent figures released from the Nielsen Company show that the total number of video streams watched online in the US increased by 25 per cent year-on-year in September this year. ![]() |
