Many consumers would be willing to pay for quality streaming media, a new survey has found.
A study carried out by Nielsen found that web users show a willingness to pay for online content such as streaming online videos or to allow advertising to pick up the costs of online content. The survey, which questioned more than 27,000 people in 54 countries, revealed that consumers are generally more open to paying for streaming music, films, games and professionally produced videos rather than blogs, podcasts and consumer-generated video content. More than a third (39 per cent) of respondents in Europe said they would put up with more advertising content in exchange for free content. Consumers in Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan showed even more enthusiasm for advertising, with more than half (57 per cent) saying they would be open to more ads to subsidise free content. Chris Lake, editor-in-chief of E-consultancy, recently said pay walls could help to revitalise the online ad sector by reducing the amount of remnant inventory and the reliance of publishers on ad networks. ![]() |
