Virgin Media has unveiled plans for a new streaming and download music service.
The MusicFish service will be launched in July and is a collaboration with Universal Music. Users will be able to download audio content and stream music online legally for a fee, in a similar fashion to rival services Spotify and Sky Songs. Online streaming and downloads will be available at an estimated price of £6.49 a month, while customers of Virgin's cable, ADSL and TV services will be ale to have free access to content. A spokesperson for Virgin Media told Marketing Magazine that the firm is currently making "good progress" on developing the project and is on course to launch MusicFish on schedule later in the year. Virgin Media recently announced that it has begun a trial of deep packet inspection technology, which is designed to identify illegal file sharing on its network. The company said at this stage only download patterns will be monitored while individual IP addresses will be discarded. ![]() |
