Virgin Media has the best broadband connection for streaming media, a new survey has found.
According to a poll conducted by broadband comparison website Cable.co.uk, Virgin Media offered consumers an average connection speed of 8.4Mbps during February. Sky came in second place with an average connection speed of 7.4Mbps, followed by Orange in third place with 6Mbps. The survey revealed that O2/Be and BT rounded off the top five list with average connection speeds of 5.6Mbps and 4.1Mbps respectively. According to the survey's researchers, Virgin Media's lead in the super-fast broadband market could widen even more when it launches its 100Mbps internet service, which is more than 24 times faster than the average speed offered by its rivals. Virgin Media recently announced the imminent launch of the super-fast broadband service, which it said would be extended to 12.6 million homes across the country and to Virgin Media's existing 3.8 million cable broadband customers by 2011. ![]() |
