Consumers in the UK are watching more streaming videos on the internet, new figures show.
According to data from comScore, a total of 5.5 billion online videos were viewed in the UK in February, representing a 37 per cent year-on-year increase. Video sharing website YouTube was the most popular site for streaming videos, with 2.47 billion videos watched. The BBC performed the best among broadcasting companies, with almost 140 million views - a year-on-year increase of 143 per cent. The BBC was followed by ITV, which was up 134 per cent to 28.2 million views and Channel 4, which rose by 26 per cent to 39.4 million views. Social networking site Facebook experienced the most rapid growth among the top ten sites where people engage with video content. The site experienced a 205 per cent increase in views over the past year, achieving 43 million video views. Mike Read, senior vice-president and managing director of comScore Europe, said: The UK online video market continues to soar and is attracting a greater and greater share of internet users attention. "In particular, weve seen eyeballs move towards the online channel to watch more longform, professional video content, such as popular broadcast network TV shows." ![]() |
