UK web users are increasingly logging on the internet to stream video content and surf web pages, new figures suggest.
According to data from the UK Online Measurement Company (UKOM), the national internet audience grew by five per cent from 36.9 million people in May 2009 to 38.8 million people in May 2010. The company said the findings reveal that the UK has a strong digital economy because all age groups in the population are able to get online more easily now and do not necessarily need to be technologically savvy. According to Alex Burmaster, a spokesman for UKOM, the internet is no longer reserved exclusively for the young and the "technical literati". UKOM also attributed the surge in internet usage to improved access of good broadband services and faster web connections. James Smythe, general manager at UKOM, added: "Getting connected to internet at home has become easier, and it has become a part of more people's working lives too." ![]() |
