Video sharing website YouTube has launched a new service called Leanback, which allows viewers to watch online videos on their TVs.
The service uses basic keystrokes to let users navigate the online streaming service on their TV, doing away with the traditional mouse. Leanback is currently in beta and allows views to scroll though thumbnails on the TV screen using arrow keys, hit the down button to access a pre-defined categories of video content or hit the up button to go to the search menu. The interface automatically starts playing content feeds based on users' individual preferences. Kuan Yong, senior product manager at YouTube, commented on the company's official blog: "Just as its name implies, YouTube Leanback is all about letting you sit back, relax and be entertained." He added that videos tailored to viewers' interests play as soon as they visit the site and the content plays continuously in full screen and high definition. ![]() |
