More than half of people questioned in a new survey say they watch streaming videos and films over the internet.
A poll conducted by price comparison site uSwicth.com found that 54 per cent of respondents watch TV and films online, while a further 82 per cent go online to pay their bills and manage their finances. Despite the enthusiasm with which consumers are going online, many are still clueless about the specifics of their internet packages. Over a third (36 per cent) of people said they do not know the speed being advertised by their internet service provider, while 44 per cent have never checked the speed they are actually receiving. Ernest Doku, communications expert at uSwitch.com, pointed out that consumers are continually getting the "short thrift" when it comes to actual broadband speeds and there needs to be more transparency. "The need for speed is only going to increase as more companies develop media rich websites and the popularity for online TV continues to skyrocket," he commented. "Any new initiatives cannot come soon enough." ![]() |
