Video streaming website YouTube has launched an updated music site that offers a wide range of new features.
The service allows users to access a plethora of music videos which are ranked in a "Today's Hits" category and create instant playlists in users' chosen musical genres including world music, religious, R&B and soul, rock, classical, rap and hip-hop, country and folk, electronic and pop. The site is also expected to provide local music listings in a section entitled "Events Near You", although it has not yet been confirmed whether or not this will be available worldwide. Although YouTube previously allowed users to watch music videos, the latest development will make music content more discoverable and accessible. The new site will be up against competition of rival sites that offer similar services, such as Vevo (a joint venture with Google, which also owns YouTube) as well as Yahoo! Music, AOL Music, MTVMusic.com, Pandora, Last.fm and iTunes. ![]() |
