AOL has announced that it has acquired the streaming video syndication platform 5min Media.
The deal will allow AOL to increase the delivery of targeted streaming videos across its properties in an effort to attract a greater number of advertisers and to monetise streaming video produced by AOL. AOL said partnering with 5min Media will allow the company to add more video to its inventory pages and use its StudioNow capabilities to plug any "video content holes" in its sites. Tim Armstrong, chairman and chief executive of AOL, said the deal with 5min Media is the latest in a number of steps the company has taken this year to place AOL in a better position to capture the growing video opportunity on the web. "AOL is building a video ecosystem for the next decade [and] 5min Media is the perfect complement to our powerful video capabilities," he said. "It provides a missing piece in the AOL value chain that completes our end-to-end video offering." ![]() |
